Cortinarius (Phlegmacium) osmophorus Orton syn. C. evosmus Joachim apud Henry Orangenduftender Schleierling Cap 4–10cm across, convex with inrolled margin, ochraceous becoming tinged tawny with age. Stem 30–40 x 10–15mm, (20–30mm wide at marginate bulb), white discolouring pallid, finally rusty buff. Flesh whitish. Taste mild, smell very strong and heady, described as ranging from mock orange-blossom to metal polish, it may be detected in the field by its smell. Gills white then ochre-clay, finally cinnamon. Spore print rust. Spores lemon- to almond-shaped, rough, 9–10 x 5–6µ. Flesh turns slightly yellow with NaOH; cap cuticle turns reddish-brown. Habitat beech woods on chalk. Season autumn. Occasional. Edibility suspect -avoid. Found In Europe.
